An exceptional season
Just in time for the start of the second leg of the past 19/20 season, RB Leipzig and AEZ, premium ALCAR Group brand, presented their new partnership. As a new Official Partner of RB Leipzig, which comes with a comprehensive performance portfolio, the two partners were looking forward to a successful second half of the season.
After a highly successful first half of the past season, for the first time, RB Leipzig started the second leg of the German Bundesliga as Fall Champion. After good results in the league matches and the absolute highlight of qualifying for the Champions League quarter finals in March, everything turned upside down. No one could have guessed that due to COVID-19 the entire league would come to a standstill, halting all matches from mid-March onwards for an indefinite period.
It took more than two months for the matches to take place again, under special conditions and without audiences. It’s all the more delightful that despite the tough circumstances, RB Leipzig completed the Bundesliga season successfully, coming third place and securing another qualification for the Champions League.
Europe’s premier competition
The Champions League season also went according to plan. RB Leipzig fought great matches in the group stage already, with a dream goal by Marcel Sabitzer during the home match against Zenit St. Petersburg being only one of many highlights. As group winners in the Group G, the team, which is coached by Julian Nagelsmann, marched with confidence through the round of 16 against Tottenham Hotspur.
We all know that you always save the best for the last. After winning against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter finals, RB Leipzig proved that this year they were one of Europe’s top clubs – deservedly so.
Due to this win, for the first time in the club’s history, the team competed in the semi-finals of Europe’s premier competition opposite France’s top team Paris Saint-Germain in an exciting match.
The season that took place in an up until then exceptional year, ended spectacularly. Despite a spirited game and a great deal of commitment it wasn’t supposed to be. Luck was not on RB Leipzig’s side, and so the team had to say goodbye to their dream shortly before the finals. “We’re very proud to have made it into the semi-finals, even though we’re currently overwhelmed with frustration. It’s not a given for RB Leipzig to be among Europe’s top four teams,” coach Julian Nagelsmann comments on his team’s performance.
We are very excited and cannot wait to see what RB Leipzig will achieve in the next season.
